Pasture Raised Eggs

Pasture Raised Eggs in Guernsey

Our eggs come from hens raised on pasture as part of a regenerative farming system that supports soil health, animal welfare and nutrient density.

They are available through The Farm Shop in boxes of 6.

These are real eggs from hens that live outside, scratch, forage and contribute to the land.

How Our Hens Are Raised

For the majority of the year, our hens live outdoors on pasture and are moved regularly. This rotation protects the ground, spreads fertility evenly and prevents soil damage.

Chickens are natural soil builders when managed well. As they forage, they:

  • Scratch and gently aerate the surface

  • Deposit natural fertiliser

  • Help cycle nutrients back into the soil

  • Stimulate microbial activity

In winter, the hens come inside to live under glass. They still have access to full natural daylight, fresh air and space to move, while being protected from the worst of the weather. During this period they are fed a diverse diet including market garden scraps, keeping nutrients cycling within the farm system.

Healthy hens come from healthy systems.

Why Pasture Raised Matters

Egg quality reflects how hens are raised.

When hens live outdoors with access to pasture, sunlight and natural behaviours, their eggs typically show:

  • Deep golden yolks

  • Strong shells

  • Rich flavour

  • A diverse nutrient profile

The colour of the yolk reflects what the hen has eaten. Diverse forage and fresh greens produce eggs with depth of flavour and colour.

The quality comes from the system.

Eggs and Nutrient Density

Just like vegetables, egg nutrition begins with soil.

When pasture is biologically active and mineral cycling is strong, hens forage in a richer environment. That diversity influences the nutritional composition of the eggs. Research consistently shows that pasture raised eggs often contain higher levels of omega-3 fatty acids and fat-soluble vitamins compared to conventionally produced eggs.
